Compare the Capsule Replacement Filter and Glacier Ultrafilter on filtration, compatibility, and cost. Find out which replacement filter suits your fountain and pet.
Quick answer
Choose the Capsule Replacement Filter if you own the PL-WF002 fountain and want a simple, subscription-based filter that tackles hair, heavy metals, and taste. Choose the Glacier Replacement Ultrafilter if you need advanced bacteria removal (99.9%) and have a fountain that accepts it. The Glacier is the more protective option, but the Capsule is the only one explicitly compatible with the PL-WF002.
Filtration technology: what each filter actually removes
The Capsule Replacement Filter uses a three-layer design: a cotton layer to catch hair and debris, activated carbon to reduce odors and improve taste, and an ion exchange resin to remove heavy metals. This is a solid everyday filtration setup for typical pet fountains.
The Glacier Replacement Ultrafilter is built with BASF Ultrason® resins and claims to remove 99.9% of bacteria larger than 0.01μm. It also includes ion exchange fibers and activated carbon for heavy metals and odors. In short, the Glacier adds a bacteria-removal layer that the Capsule does not claim. If your pet is prone to urinary issues or you want extra peace of mind, that difference matters.
Compatibility: the Capsule is model-specific, the Glacier is not
The Capsule Replacement Filter is explicitly noted as only available for the Water Fountain model PL-WF002. That means if you own a different fountain, the Capsule may not fit. The Glacier Replacement Ultrafilter does not list a specific model restriction in the supplied information, but you should always verify fit with your fountain's manual or product page before buying. Compatibility is the first thing to check—buying the wrong filter wastes money and may compromise water flow.
Cost and subscription: convenience vs. upfront savings
The Capsule Replacement Filter is offered as a subscription with packages, priced at USD 29.98 (compared to a catalog price of USD 59.96). That subscription model can be convenient for regular replacements, but it commits you to recurring deliveries. The Glacier Replacement Ultrafilter is priced at USD 19.99 (compared to USD 39.98) and comes in package options, but no subscription is mentioned. If you prefer to buy filters on your own schedule, the Glacier may be simpler. However, the Capsule's subscription could be a good fit if you like automatic reminders and savings.
Key trade-offs
- Filtration depth: The Glacier adds bacteria removal (99.9% >0.01μm), while the Capsule focuses on hair, heavy metals, and taste. Choose the Glacier if bacterial contamination is a concern; choose the Capsule for standard filtration. If your pet has had urinary problems, the Glacier's extra layer may be worth it.
- Fountain compatibility: The Capsule is only for the PL-WF002 fountain. The Glacier does not list a model restriction, but you must confirm it fits your fountain. Buying the wrong filter can waste money and reduce water flow. Always check your fountain model before ordering.
- Purchase model: The Capsule is available as a subscription with packages at USD 29.98 (regular USD 59.96). The Glacier comes in packages at USD 19.99 (regular USD 39.98) without a subscription. Subscriptions offer convenience and savings but lock you into recurring orders; one-time purchases give flexibility. If you dislike subscriptions, the Glacier is the simpler choice.
